ADHD: A Pandemic Without a Disease Do you know there is a medically diagnosed disorder that affects over two American children?† Experts on the subject say there are many more undiscovered cases out there and the cause is still unknown. It sounds like we have a really big problem. The thing is, the disorder that affects all these children, isn’t a disorder at all. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a set of behaviors that are considered a medical problem. In reality, it isn’t a disorder. It is a fad that somehow got started. There are different things that can be done to stop ADHD. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a chronic condition that affects millions of children and often persists into adulthood. Problems†¦show more content†¦Sample sizes in these studies have often been small and produced a variety of inconsistent results. In no study were the brains considered clinically abnormal, nor is it possible to work out whether any diffe rences seen are caused by (rather than being the causes of ) different styles of thinking, or are the result of the medication the children had taken. (Timimi). Everybody is different. This is also true when it comes to personalities and behaviors. At the same everybody follows certain guidelines for the way they act. This is like an English class getting an assignment to write about their favorite thing to do at the beach. Not everyone’s answers will be the same. A few people may answer that they don’t go to the beach, do not have a favorite activity at the beach, or may answer something besides the answer you would expect: swimming. Can we say that these kids have a disorder because they think differently and didn’t answer with swimming? Of course we can’t. Timmy doesn’t like to swim because he had a near death experience in the water. Sally would rather work on her tan because she is self-conscious about herself. Johnny likes beach volleyball a lot more than swimming and Andy’s dad left so he lives with his mom who works two jobs and never has the time to take him to the beach.
